Casually defendin’ Freys.

Can people please get over the fact that not all Freys are bad? I mean seriously! If one man commits an act as terrible and heinous that he deserves to die (as this fandom suggests), can his daughters and sons, his grandchildren no older than 3 truly deserve to die? Spoilers ahead and a lot of ranting; use caution.

Frey hate actually makes me so mad and more often than not I choose not to say anything because you say one thing about a Frey and people will troll you with so much Red Wedding BULLSHIT that you’re seeing red for like a week. 

For some reason, and I cannot for the life of me explain why, I was just fascinated with the Freys. People who know me in this fandom know I cling to minor characters like my actual life depends on it. I research and research until I know as much as I can and I build that character a life. Maybe the fact there are so many Freys is what attracted me to them. People like to catagorise them into one group of people: The Weasels of Westeros. But that honestly isn’t true! If people took the time to learn about the individuals living at The Twins, you’d find there are some Freys that are better than others. Some are even kinder than the more popular characters this fandom likes to brown nose. 

Walder Frey is a complete and utter wanker. I know this and I do not condone the life he leads and the choices he makes. But there was a time (probably before the first book) when if we’d have met him then, a few of us would understand why he is so vile now. Just like we all do, the Lannisters, Tullys and Starks have looked down on this man and his family and all they stand for. Sometimes I think this is why we do not know their motto/words; a personal slight on their family honour. I do not like Walder Frey, and I do not have to in order to like Freys as a whole, because he is just one of many. There are 88 Freys (including women) in line for this man’s seat, not that many of them will ever live to inherit it. The closer to the top of the Frey Line of Succession, the more vile that Frey tends to be. For example; Black Walder Frey finds himself 3rd in line, and passed a few Freys I can’t be bothered to explain right now you have Aenys Frey at number 17 (can you blame him for being a dick, I mean his name?!?!?!) and Rhaegar at 19. Gatehouse Ami and Fat Walda are joining us at 46 and 47, so about half way through, and there is nothing to suggest their is particularly nasty. Amerei is a slut, and Walda is fat and tries to please her husband. And then right at the bottom Roslin is 86 and Shirei rounds us off at 88. So it would seem to me (with a few exceptions, of course) that the desperation for the power of House Frey corrupts those who stand a chance of inheriting it. Personally I hope Walder Frey hands his power over to one of his bastards and pisses them all off. 

My one true fucking pet hate when it comes to people bashing the Freys is they do not know who they are sentencing when they start saying shit like “I hope The Twins burn with all of them inside”. Yes, I’d like for many Freys to die, I fucking loathe Ryman Frey because he lodged his axe in Dacey Mormont’s stomach, but for the life of me I do not understand what some of the others have done to deserve such hate.

Walder Frey’s sixth wife was Bethany Rosby. She was skinny and pretty but strong enough to give him a child every year they were married. Her eldest son Perwyn was one of Robb’s closest battle companions. When word reached the Twins of Robb’s marriage, Perwyn was sent away from his home after being deemed too sympathetic. Yes, Perwyn deserves to die for being on the side of his King, even when his family was once again slighted. Her second son, Benfrey is an exception. He was present at the Red Wedding but he died. He also married his cousin Jyanna. They had two children. Della (known as Deaf Della I wander why) and Osmund. Yes, his 3 and 2 year old children deserve to die. 

Next is Maester Willamen, Walder and Bethany’s third son, serving Longbow Hall for House Hunter. Took his vows a year before the Red Wedding. Yep, he should die for not being present how dare he. THEN you have Olyvar Frey, who became Robb’s squire, remember? Yes well he wanted to stay with Robb even after he married Jeyne, and though he return home (what a reception he would have received can you imagine it?) he was not present at the RW and was most likely sent away because of his friendship with Robb.

And then, my baby, my poor poor baby Roslin. The only daughter of Bethany and Walder, and we all know the part she played. People blame her for not speaking out during the ceremony. “If Roslin would have warned them then everything would be okay.” Yes. Only Roslin would have most likely been killed for foiling her father’s and the Bolton’s and the Lannister’s and everyone else involved and their plans. This really fucks me off. Think of all the preparation that went into this RW? Think of all the SHIT they must have put her through so she did not fail them. I look at this in two ways. She either went along because her father/Black Walder/ her brother Benfrey threatened her somehow, or because they made her believe and helped her convince herself that Robb was at fault. If there is one thing clear, it is that the Rosby genes are the stronger genes in these children. I do not think for a second that Roslin has a bad bone in her body, but I would be stupid to forget that she is a Frey, so there is some of her Father in there. I mean, she cried! She cried, ffs! What could one little girl do in a room full of people ready to kill. She’d have been killed alongside them, and Edmure too. So in a way, although it’s not much, Edmure owes her his life. They’d have killed them all. For sure. 

So next time you decide you want to burn down the Twins, think about the four remaining Rosby children, one of which who is giving birth to the Tully heir at the Twins as Jaime tells us. They didn’t do a damn thing to deserve to die, and shoving them in the corner with the twisted fucks they share genes with is not fair. You might not like all the Starks, or the Greyjoys, or the Lannisters. So would you kill them all? 

Okay rant over. I apologise I just needed to get that out after WEEKS of saying nothing.

Also, by the way, I love Robb Stark and the RW destroyed me. But seriously now, RosbyFreys… spare some love for the RosbyFreys.
